See more View on facebook 2 years ago Member of the month - Chelsea My fitness journey started in 2010. Before that time, I gave zero fu*ks about my health. I partied & drank a lot, didn’t really work out, and had no concept of what healthy meant. Because I was overweight, I had low self-esteem, and valued my worth by how well I was doing in my career, not by my quality of life. A close friend at that time introduced me to Crossfit. The moment I walked into Crossfit Havoc in Oklahoma, I knew my life would change. Even though I was obviously intimidated (like many others are to get started), the coach and community were so welcoming and non-judgmental. In 2011, I started to see even more changes when I altered my eating habits. Before, I was working out so I could eat what I wanted, but it needed to be the other way around. I completed my first Whole30 reset and realized this: we spend so much more time outside of the gym. How we feed and fuel ourselves has a bigger impact than JUST working out. I continued to do Crossfit on and off for the next few years. By 2013, I made my first move to Colorado Springs to be with my husband and was introduced to a heated Vinyasa yoga practice at Crossfit Soco. My life began changing even more! I had the elements of physical exercise, nutrition, and now I was adding in mindfulness. In 2015, I left my career in the Title & Closing industry to pursue my 200 Hour Yoga Teacher Training in Tulum Mexico. Once I returned, I knew right away I wanted to teach to the Crossfit athletes in my home gym (we were back in Oklahoma at that time) and work for lululemon. A few more army moves later, I ended back in Colorado Springs in 2017. Which brings me to now! I joined Crossfit 719 this past January after a few visits. I knew I wanted this gym to be my home. The incredible/mindful coaches gave me that same feeling I had when I first started. And with the encourage of Josh and others, I competed in the Festivus Games in March of 2018, a first-timers competition. Here a few takeaways from the last 7 years with Crossfit/nutrition/yoga: 1. You cannot compare yourself: everyone’s journey & experience is different. The weights used in workouts, PRs, physical stature… it will always be different. Which brings me to the second lesson. 2. You have no idea where someone is on their journey or where they started. So spend more time getting to know them and their story. Encourage more than you judge, no matter what. 3. Shit will happen. Setbacks, injuries, fails. Let them happen and know they do not define you. Then move forward. If you would have told me in 2010 this is how far I would come, I wouldn’t believe you. I have a fullfiling career, I’m the most active I’ve ever been, and have accomplished so many big goals! I am grateful for every person, gym, PR, and failure I’ve experienced. I know the journey isn’t over and my time with Crossfit 719 has just begun. So, I look forward to every high-five, goal achieved, and friendship made! ...
